For anything new, ability to go against the mindsets ,to explore new perspectives n courage to stand alone are needed.
"Understanding needs the ability to see from different perspectives and courage to experiment and not just be a part of the herd.I give you an example:
If,in the middle ages in western europe, you had preached, say, hygiene, what would have happened to you?You would have been seen as heretical, for a start-becaue only infidels washed. You would have been laughed at,castigated by reputable people for assuming that you were bettewr than they were, because you washed and they did not.If you taught about microbes, would you have got away with it?If you used THEIR mass-media,you would have been accused of immodesty and worse,if you tried to set up your own,you would be accused of sisnister intentions or worse..."
- --------------Idries Shah(From "Learning how to learn")
On how the experimentativeness needs the courage to stand alone,to explore. To go against the conventions of any kind-may these be religious, literary or social,is very difficult and so is to see beyond what we call,Consensual truth"::
In my youth a teacher said to me:"if collecting together were the way to greater enlightenment, grains of sand would all have become saints, flocks of birds would break up andeach would become a spiritual teacher, sheep would excercise the function of the enlighten.:
